This project involved designing and refining mobile interfaces for a point-of-sale solution aimed at restaurants and retail businesses, focusing on creating an intuitive, efficient, and highly functional user experience. The goal was to enhance operational mobility, streamline ordering processes, and deliver a product that exceeded client expectations by combining aesthetics with practical performance.

STRATEGY

Designing a fast, mobile-first POS for restaurants and retail

SOLUTION

A mobile POS tailored for speed, usability, and compliance

I led the design end-to-end: from research and discovery to prototyping, validation, and handoff.

Key deliverables included:

Fast order flows → sales completed in just a few taps for both attendants and customers.

Auto-service mode → designed flows for kiosks/self-service ordering.

Modifiers & add-ons → flexible options for restaurant scenarios (extras, portions, notes).

Market flows → product list, quick search, and checkout optimized for retail.

Design system → scalable components supporting Android smart POS and tablets.

Compliance → flows designed around NFC-e fiscal requirements.

INSIGHTS

What we learned and achieved along the way

A design system ensures scalability
A design system ensures scalability
By creating a mobile-first design system, the product could evolve without fragmenting experiences across devices.

📊 Result: Improved collaboration with engineering and consistent rollouts across new device types.
Usability depends on device constraints
Usability depends on device constraints
Smart POS devices had limited screen sizes, forcing us to design adaptive layouts. Optimizing for fewest taps possible became the central usability principle.

📊 Result: Seamless experience across different Android POS devices and tablets.
Auto-service expands efficiency
Auto-service expands efficiency
Designing self-service flows allowed restaurants to reduce pressure on attendants while giving customers autonomy.

📊 Result: Increased order accuracy and better distribution of operational load in restaurants.
Speed is the key driver of adoption
Speed is the key driver of adoption
In both retail and restaurants, attendants valued the ability to complete a sale quickly. The simplified flows reduced training time and errors.

📊 Result: Faster order processing and shorter queues, especially in high-demand restaurants.
